Tasmanian legislation
determines the issuing of Building Permits, which is generally a
mandatory procedure and must be issued by the Permit Autorirty
before a person can carry out building work. Significant penalties
apply if building work commences before a Building Permit is
issued.
Generally, only very minor work is exempt from obtaining permits. It is also important to note that the terminology used to describe exempt building work must be carefully considered and applied to ensure a breach is not occurring.
